Lectures
For today's class, Mr. Fauzi started the class with a lecture about colors, the lecture slides were about color theory; Colour theory is both the science and art of using color. It explains how humans perceive color, and the colors of the message communicate artistically and emotionally.
(Week 7, Lecture notes/slides on Color Theory)
Tutorial
During the tutorial, Mr. Fauzi assigned us a few exercising, it was more of a follow-up of last week's (week 6) exercise having to do with recoloring a black and white image with the desired colors we want it to be in. Although this time around, the recoloring activity of this recoloring exercise was to color specific parts of an image from an original image with color in it already.
[Exercise 7, recoloring breakdown demonstrated by Mr. Martin]
Practical

[Recoloring B&W image, part 2]
For practical, Mr. Fauzi presented a little live demonstration of what Mr. Martin had already prepared on how to carry out this activity. Though he demonstrated it once again for more in-depth understanding or in case the class had any questions to ask.
Exercise #1:
Standard Photograph:

Figure 1.1.1 - Sample image to use for exercise 7 |
First was recoloring an image that was chosen by Mr. Fauzi to have us color in before we choose a black and white image of our choice.

Figure 1.1.3 - Color extraction #2 |
The color extraction that we have to use was also chosen by Mr. Fauzi to be applied to the b&w image. The two images above were choices that we had to choose.
Progression:

Figure 1.1.5 - #2, Selecting specific parts to start coloring., May 10th, 2021 |
Figure 1.1.6 - Color coming in, May 10th, 2021 |
From here I can already see the image coming to life with the colors, it got really exciting and fun when working through the processes. It was also a really fun way to remember the steps and add in alternative ways in the coloring with the colors I choose.
Final Outcome:
The final outcome of the recolored image may look a little off since it was my first try, I can say that it's much more challenging than the previous part of this follow-up exercise, but It's a more precise way of coloring a B&W image. It also adds knowledge to working my way around photoshop a lot more.
Exercise #2:
After practicing and having an insight on how to carry out this alternate way of recoloring b&w images, there were images prepared by Mr. Martin to repeat the process with a photograph of our own from the folder of images provided.

Figure 1.1.7 - B&W sample image of Cameron Boyce |
I chose this image of Cameron Boyce to further the practice of the recoloring exercise. Before I started, I had to find colored images of him to make sure I had his right skin tone and hair color.

Progression:
Figure 1.1.9 - Repeated processes, May 11th, 2021 |
Figure 1.2.1 - close to completion, May 11th, 2021 |
Final Outcome:
For the background I wanted to experiment with gradients instead of a solid color, So in the effects of making a new layer, I chose the gradient option and set the blending options to 'soft lights' on the same layer mask with the background selected.
What I also realized is how much of the slight improvements that I managed to achieve from the previous practice. Although it's not the best, that doesn't mean it's not a good practice to help apply it to the poster project.
Poster Design development (Project 2)
For this week's progression on poster design, Mr. Fauzi gave feedback on the class's title, slogan, and call for action regarding our posters when designing them.
Next was defining the concept of our posters, where we design appealing texts or expressive typography for our titles, slogans, and call for action.
Title

Figure 1.2.2 - Title expressive sketch |
For the title I experimented with a more expressive way to display the title to the poster, it will be further finalized with a chosen typeface when designing the final poster.
Slogan & 'Call for action'

Figure 1.2.4 - Call for action typeface |
For the slogan and call for action, I decided on having a simple don't which is 'Cooper black' although it might be changed and experimented with when working out the final poster design.
Mock-up Posters

Figure 1.2.5 - Mock-up Poster #1 |
The first mock-up poster that I sketched up has a similar reference to a poster that it was heavily influenced from, although I sketch the idea to make it appear more of a refugee behind a broken window in a home regarding the title.

Figure 1.2.6 - Mock-up Poster #2 |
The second poster on the other hand has slight similarities to it being inspired by one of the reference posters I chose from week 6, it's two hands cupping a home with a photograph of refugees within a home.
