Project 2

Animated Infographic

In the second project, we're meant to animate the infographic from project 1, but instead in a more step-by-step manner in video form, meaning that the resolution size should be at 1920 by 1080. A quick recap on my previous infographic oriented vertically as seen below:

Illustrating the frames

I had to somewhat start from scratch when styling each of the frames to display the steps in the infographic, orienting it to be horizontal instead of vertical since the submission would partially be video form. Also, I made sure to remain the design in the infographic.

Figure 1.2 - Illustrating progress, February 16th, 2022

Each of the frames was dissected into at least 12 frames, from the intro frame all the way to the outro frame (that includes all the information on illustrations and sources). The image above shows a part of the content frame that I illustrated.

I didn't have to work too much on it since all the contents and elements were already provided in the first project.

Editing the frames

Next on the list was finally inserting and editing each of the Ai files accordingly to how I think the video would play out.

Figure 1.3 - the beginning of editing, February 19th, 2022

In all honesty, there wasn't a lot of planning put into what I wanted to put into each frame as the video played out. I added in and took some out and planned it as I further myself into editing the compositions.

Figure 1.4 - Ai illustration files elements/content, February 19th, 2022

As seen in the image above, each of the layers in the illustrator that I separated each content in, works as an editable element when inserted into after effects. Which makes it, in a way, easy to edit. Although, what would want to be planned out in a clip needed to be thoroughly planned in Ai illustrator to make more sense when put into after effects.

Figure 1.6 - project files, February 19th, 2022

It may not seem much, but when the Ai files are inserted into after effects there's an option to put them into folders along with setting it to a composition. In that one composition holds each of the Ai layers, where the contents in it can be edited.

Figure 1.7 - timeline composition accumulation, February 19th, 2022

Each of the Ai layers is compiled in one composition and can still be edited separately when each of the Ai compositions is clicked on as referred to in Figure 1.4.

And finally the image below displays where I kept an eye on how the compositions play out as I edit them all together.

Before that, I've accumulated all the frames that would show up in the video into a pdf version as a reference to what the video was based on.

After the processes of editing all the compositions together, the final video form is as seen below:

Reflection

I actually felt like I got to know more about the whole aspect of editing, especially with keyframes and adobe's aftereffects in general. Plus with a lot of the exercises that were provided by Mr. Martin to try out and practice our knowledge when working with after effects and illustrator as well. It was a genuine pleasure to be able to explore more on these two programs.

Other than that, the work itself is pretty self-explanatory. The whole idea is designing a particular thing and making sure it doesn't stray away too much from its original sources. That's what I felt was heavily thought in this semester.

It may still not be much in my eyes, but I know with enough practice, dedication, and well effort- oh and discipline. Not forgetting about discipline, I'm sure and I hope to be able to achieve what I would want for myself in my design future with all this knowledge I've gained. Whether it'd be a specified domain regarding what I've learned now or even just as assistance to what I brought out or will bring out on my own.

There's still a long way and a lot more for me to learn when it comes to design, I know most of the things I put out wouldn't be as extravagant as I see my other classmates would put out. But I genuinely know not to compare myself with others for the worst of me but instead as a way to know I can do just as good and in my own way too.
