Final Project (Visual Outcome)
February 14th, 2022
-
Coming into the final parts of our group project, after proposing our idea that regards 'Drag Culture' and accumulating all the information, additional knowledge, and ideating what our outcome will be for our chosen culture. It was time to assemble, paint and decorate our final outcome.
From the previous task, we've collected data and went forth in our visual outcome- being more of a physical outcome of traditional weapons from countries that carry out deaths penalties towards homosexual people- being that our chosen culture; Drag has every close relation to the LGBTQIA+ community.
So we hope with our visual/physical outcome we hope to put out a message, that could give Drag culture much more exposure and also stop the cruelties towards the LGBTQIA+ community in Drag's culture and in general.
3D modeling & printing weapons
Pre-print weapons;
Our group leader, Jia Sheng planned out and constructed the shape and form of each of the weapons in Blender to later then be 3D printed out as seen in the images below:

Figure 1.2 - Keris weapons pre-print weapon, February 19th, 2022

After all the rendering, our group leader did the part of 3D printing it out with the assistance of Taylor's service.
Post-print weapons;

Since the filament colors of the weapons weren't exactly the desired colors we'd hope for our weapons to turn out, Jia Sheng base coated the weapons by spray painting the assembled weapons gray. All in all, it'd most possibly be much easier to paint over the base coat with acrylic paint instead of the filament surface.

The weapons are now prepared to be painted over and decorated according to the sketches that were planned out in the proposal deck.
Weapon color planning & coming back to campus
In the next course of action of our group project, our group leader Jia Sheng and group assistant Tressa planned a day to finally start painting the weapons, so we had to be back on campus to carry out the tasks.
Jodiann and Yi Yun took up the roles as main painters, being that they were much more experienced in acrylics and overall all realistic painting as assigned by Tressa (also being very well experienced in the whole painting medium.) Since everyone that was mentioned is well versed in the medium, Tressa too assigned Yi Yun to sketch out a few sketches of the weapons to capture the idea of what the colors and overall design of the weapons can be as a starting point.
The sketches seen below was done and sketched by Yi Yun;
Figure 1.6 - Keris sketch color theme was done by Yi Yun, February 16th, 2022
Figure 1.7 - Jambiya sketch color theme was done by Yi Yun, February 16th, 2022
The rest of the teammates (including me), took up alternative roles such as documenting and capturing progression images.
Before being back on campus, there were a few unexpected events that happened, where a few members of the group couldn't attend due to quarantine and booster shots. So that left Tressa, Jodiann, and me to start out the painting process first.
We kind of went into the painting processes a little blindly first, especially my part if the 'alternative' contribution in painting the Saintie weapon a base color of what its theme should be since Tressa and Jodiann had their own ideas going on for their chosen weapon that they wanted to paint.

In the last image seen above, there was a slight change in plans for the Saintie. originally the idea for it was to have a much darker tone in color combination to it (like, black & red with a hint of gold) but was changed to a brighter color (a more light purple look) but was later changed back to red and black as a final look, that can be referred to in upcoming images.
Weapon coloring and decorating
After the first day of weapon painting, the second time we gathered together as a group, we finally have all the colors down for each weapon. Tressa did all the parts of enhancing the weapons and re-painting certain parts to it and preparing the initial paint colors back at her home. To be further used with the help of all the group members, on the second day of carrying our final group task out.
Phase 1: Determining materials and paints (colors) used:
Figure 1.12 - acrylic, matte & gloss varnishes
Figure 1.13 - extra materials & stolen beads from Tressa's mom
Figure 1.14 - fabric, ribbons & beads (bought by Tress)
Figure 1.15 - metallic & glitter acrylics
With all the materials seen above, everyone gathered around for one last time to get our weapons done and painted in. Though this time, our works for painting go into much more intricate details on the weapons and just a whole convenient way of discussing our final slides and message to put into slides as a group.
More progression images:
Phase 2: Getting in the details of the weapons, touching up the weapons & planning out the gem placements

Phase 3: Weapon name planning (unexpected turn of events)
As we progressed, we started brainstorming ideas on what to call our weapons and went into further discussion on what should be put into our final output slides. The images below displays images of team members touching up and putting the weapons back together because of how much it feels as if it could fall apart at any given moment with a little bit of hot glue.

Figure 1.25 - "titanic crack" (pic taken by Tressa), February 19th, 2022
Figure 1.26 - gluing Jambiya crack together, February 19th, 2022
We had two weapons down on the name but were slightly struggling with one more weapon which was the Saintie. Keris being named 'Anna Konda' By Jodiann and the Jambiya being named 'Sugar Plum' by Tressa it was only the Saintie left, it took numerous names and name references being tossed around the room for the Saintie.
Until an unexpected event happened that sparked an idea of what to call the Saintie, 'The Red Queen'. Due to the countless layers of dry paint on the weapon, the glue could have probably worn off and cracked resulting in the accident seen below;
Figure 1.27 - "off with her head (Jodiann's wrath)" pic taken by Tressa, February 19th, 2022
But it was simply fixed with some hot glue and everything was back to the way it was. Though, Saintie's name was later on changed in the end to 'Bloody Mary', information on that can be referred to soon. Finally resulting in the final painted looks and designs for each weapon.

Final Phase: Dressing up the weapons, showcasing weapons
For this final phase, Tressa completely took the wheel in sewing the little outfits and working out the gem/bead placements all on each weapon as seen below with the images and timelapse she had filmed, edited, and prepared. o7 <--- it's a salute.
If my assumptions are correct, the order of each process is the processes that Tressa went by up to completing each outfit for each weapon.
1. Varnishing off each weapon (February 20th - 21st, 2022)
Anna Konda, Keris
Bloody Mary, Saintie
2. Sewing Jewels and placing jewels (February 22nd, 2022)

Figure 1.30 - sewing 'venom' jewel 2 (pic taken by Tressa), February 22nd, 2022
2(a). Jeweling each weapon
2(b). Beading (for Saintie)
3. Sewing the outfits of each weapon (February 22nd,2022)
4. Final finished outcome (Saintie outfit draft)
With all the final processes carried out by Tressa, the weapons were finally done and ready to be showcased. This leads us into the final parts of our Drag journey.

Final output (slides & video presentation)
Low and behold, our drag journey has come to an end. Our final task as a group was to accumulate all our signs of progress and documentation on making our visual outcome a reality into a final slide deck to later then be recorded in a pre-recorded presentation video as a submission.
Drag Culture - Final Output - Recorded Video presentation
The slides were prepared by Tressa, with the help of the rest of the teammates in arranging, summarising data and implementing our message throughout our chosen culture with our final visual/physical outcome. We were finally done!

Reflection

In my perspective of this module in general, it truly has been quite the event. This final semester's module really thought me many ways on how a group should undergo itself. It may not make sense, but personally, I think there were many little things I noticed and got to observe for my own on how I work myself out in a team with either friends and new people or even new people ending up being friends with.
I can definitely say that my teammates and I had a fair share in doing our parts and I am honestly content with the thought processes, ideas, and delegated tasks that we all worked on together. I would say that each of us had our moments in our groups where it felt we weren't contributing much (or maybe it was just me ahAh--) but in all honestly, I'd like to believe that my teammates definitely have their own ways of putting in their own efforts into our works that we had put out.
Bless their souls and for once in my life, being as doubtful as I am, I know and am very aware that there is still much more to explore on my end, therefore what I put into my group, I hope to hopefully say that I did a fairly good job at going my best to contribute to my team. Of course, feeling confident enough to say that my teammates did their absolute best as much!
