Project 2

Project 2 (Week 1 Task)
August 25th, 2021

In the first week, Mr. Martin assigned the class to watch a few Zach King videos to prepare for our second project in shooting after-effects videos and editing them, we are meant to choose 3 effects from any of Zach King's videos and to hopefully have the practice in improvising our ways of shooting and editing on the same effects on our own.

The 3 effects I decided to choose are based on the video I've chosen with a brief elaboration on what i understood on the effect used in the video.

1. A clever cat plays tricks on Zach and Aaronsanimals

The effect that was presented in this video was that the candy seemed to be filmed at a certain angle to make it look 3-dimensional but after Zach and Aaron left it was, in fact, flat and printed on cardboard, and candy was added underneath it to seem as if there was no candy there before.

2. How to print your pets-

This effect seemed quite doable if I were to take up this effect, in a way it's also a fun way to work with my cats on this particular effect. It seemed as if there were cuts in between where Zach showed the printed picture of the cat and lightly slammed the picture on the printer top, with the help of editing Zach placed the kitty in another scene.

3. Instant potato chips

The final effect, I chose is Zach using a peeler to make instant potato chips! In my opinion, this effect seems pretty challenging being that when he peels off the skin on the potato it turns instantly into a chip, there must've been a lot of cut scenes in between to perfect the potato skin being peeled to turn into a chip. But it would be an interesting way to work out how to evaluate the video and try it on my own.

Project 2 Prep (Week 3-4 Task )
September 9th, 2021

For this week's task, we were assigned by Mr. Martin to prepare tutorial videos based on the effects we chose in week 1 so that by the time week 4 arrives, there's more time to prepare and get filming started.

Based on my chosen effects from the first week, I did what I could to find similar tutorial effects that have the same concept as the effects video I've chosen.

Other than that, there were a few more separated tasks that had to sooner be touched later into the week as seen below:

Tutorial effects video chosen (in-order):

1. A clever cat plays tricks on Zach and Aaronsanimals (same tutorial concept)

Since the effect video I chose, the more I observed the more it had to do with perspective. Therefore, this video could be taken into reference, if I were to chose this effect.

2. How to print your pets- (Paper to objects tutorial)

For this effect, I'd say was an easy and simple effect, and the tutorial in the first few minutes of it show the ideal way and how to achieve the effect. Stepping up my game a little, this particular effect that I chose, just like in the video Zach King did, he had paper turn into a cat. Which is something I'd like to attempt to achieve.

3. Instant potato chips (Same concept/idea tutorial video)

For this effect, it was quite tricky to find a tutorial for this particular effect. So I had to improvise, although this effect is so much similar to the second one. It still had the same idea of getting instant chips.

Story and plot segmentation:

Mr. Martin also prepared a simplified proposal of our short story to prepare for filming our second project, implementing our chosen effects as seen above.

Project 2 Prep (Week 4 Task )
September 15th, 2021

For this week's project 2 preparation, Mr. Martin assigned the class in proposing our final effect and a story to tell regarding the effects that we chose. Other than that, we were required to mark down different shots we were going to film in plotting our scenes when filming, as seen below:

Project 2 Final Draft (Week 6 Task )

This week Mr. Martin consulted on our progress for our 2nd project, during the 4th and 5th weeks was filming week where I filmed my shots. This week was a finalization draft, preparing to submit our project 2.

Figure 1.1 - finalization, Progress #1, October 6th, 2021

Figure 1.2 - Finalization, Progress #2, October 6th, 2021

The first figure was me attempting to shorten the video since my video was up to a minute long and the project requirements of the video is to be no longer than 30 seconds. I did my best on cutting out unnecessary shots and manage to shorten my clip down to 40+ seconds.

The second figure was more towards adding the title and the credits at the end of the video, also color-correcting some of the shots.
