Reflection

Experience

Closing in to the 14th week of advanced typography and I have to say my experience in this final typography class was surprisingly not as intense as it was in 'Typography' last semester. I think what put ease onto this subject of 'Typography Part II' was that I knew who was already teaching and giving feedback on my designs and work. Although it may seem like I liked it in the previous sentences, it was still challenging, there were new topics regarding typography- much more advanced topics regarding typography but to be blatantly honest the first few weeks of it were manageable. I was in an attempt to be prepared into putting lessons I've learned from last semester's typography class into this semester's advanced typography and it definitely worked out for the most part. Especially when it came to functioning the programs that were heavily used in this subject.

Other than that, there were still a few moments where I didn't feel like I was putting in enough effort into shaping my designs when it came to the tasks given in this semester's advanced typography, then again it was definitely a way to learn. I was much eager into hearing what kind of feedback I would receive from Mr. Vinod or even my peers about my work to see what I can carry out or mend with little by little to make it up to my liking. This time around I did my best to not compare my works with my peers for I am still in the progress of finding my own style. I just like the idea that I am still able to experiment and design certain things out of my comfort zone to be aware of what I'm actually good at or what my initial theme/design/style is even for typography.

In conclusion, it was enjoyable to have that slight adrenaline but not as much fear as I did before in presenting my works, it also felt as if there was some kind of spark in wanting to forego my curious questions towards what else typography could offer as hard as it can make it out to be.

Observation

When it comes to observations, I might as well apply that category to myself as well because I've realized how much I genuinely question many different works and pieces that have any ounce of typography or typographical elements. Maybe my critics on the pieces aren't as valid as they are, but they made me think deeply about how it can be changed if I wanted a shot into a design's alternate appearance, there is also that constant growing mindset where I really take in the environment of many graphic designs all around me, I can say it was definitely an enjoyable psychological thing to have now than before.

Findings

Advanced typography is definitely a subject that allowed me to indulge more in graphics, it isn't what I'm used to then again many things that I am taking up I haven't got used to. It's always one step further into learning more about it instead of actually acquiring that skill of being good at it, which I'm completely fine with- for the most part. Then again, my findings were for this subject made me peer into being as precise, consistent, and explorative as I can be when it comes to my works. Since it was a first for everything, asking some of my peers on my own for their feedback or opinion would elevate my findings on really improving my ways to approach my designs the next time.
